About Us

Department of English plays a pivotal role in developing communication skills among students. The department has dedicated well experienced and committed team of staff members, who aim at efficiently delivering a course in English. The undergraduate course specially aims to shape the interpretative and critical skills of the students. The syllabus provided by the Madurai Kamaraj University covers a wide range of texts, authors, movements literary trends, theories and schools of criticism. It encompasses a study of the history of English Literature. The syllabus overall covers and gives in depth a study on eminent authors, dramatists, poets and critics.

The English Department conducts compulsory Spoken English Course under the name “Flyover Transition Course”. The Department also conducts University Certified Diploma course in Communicative and Functional English which is compulsory to I year English Students and optional for other major students. Adding to these our department also conducts Short term Certificate courses and Aptitude Skill Development Course exclusively for English Department Students with the syllabus framed by the Department faculty. To make the students excel academically the department conducts remedial classes.
